Perfecting the Art of Fishing through Apps

fishing appsRegardless of your abilities as an angler or just a straight up fishing enthusiast, buying into the latest technological aids can help you hone your skills. Yes, there will always be fishing fans and anglers that enthuse about the fact that fishing is a primal activity and shouldn’t utilize technology for personal gains. However, who doesn’t want to improve at what they are doing and get the most from an experience?

Sometimes utilizing the latest apps available while fishing can determine whether you go home empty handed or record the catch of the day. Needless to say, even professional anglers tap into the most up to date equipment to take their game to the next level. Luckily, for us there’s a plethora of apps available to cater for nearly all of our needs when it comes to fishing.

We’ve never actually published an article about apps before on FANW, so why do we feel there is a need for such a post?

The App Store currently has a reported 1.2 million apps alone available and there has been upwards of 75 million downloads since the store’s inception. Tech research website Statista disclosed that 2.2% of that figure was dedicated to sports fishing knot appapps. Now that doesn’t sound like a huge figure but if you do the math, it means that there’s over 13,000 apps related to sports.

It’s a stat that is extremely pleasing for fishing fans because it means that a portion of the 13,000 sports apps available is dedicated to fishing. It’s also a figure that will continue to rise as app developer’s look to launch the most innovative apps on the market and gain as much exposure as possible. Gaming Realms, the operators of online gaming site PocketFruity say that “the increase in smartphone use to around 16%,” globally is another reason why many developers are aiming to bring the best apps to the market because of how lucrative the market is, nowadays.

But sifting through the multitude of sub-standard apps can be a pain. So, here are the three apps we recommend.

Knot Guide For the amateur fisher, learning how to tie the many knots needed in fishing is of the upmost importance. Knot Guide has an extensive how-to guide on more than 100 different variations of knots. It explains each step, and lets you log certain knots that you want to return to at a later date.

fishing weather appMy Fishing Forecast This app provides the user with a definitive list that specifically recommends certain times of the day to fish at different locations. It will give you accurate forecasts on weather for the upcoming days which will incorporate graphs that will show you when the best times to head out on your journey. Refer to main picture for the screen grabs taken from the app.

Fish Tales Fish Tales is an app for the avid fishers who love to keep a record of their catches. Its diary facilities help you to log your equipment too, and will give you notifications whenever you are running low on certain things. The app also allows you to save pictures of your catches, tag them at their respective locations and has social sharing options.

The list obviously doesn’t stop here when it comes to informative fishing apps, so by all means let us know what apps you have found that helps all levels of fishing below in our comments section.
